Whatever happened to Marie Collier the Australian opera singer?
According to a reliable source she fell to her death out an open apartment window. I do not know if this was accident or suicide, these are both possibilities. she was 44 at the time. the accident occured in London in l97l. More info From an online biography: "She (Collier) made no secret of her loneliness and was once reported as saying: 'When rehearsals are over and you leave the theatre, there's nothing'. It was this public statement that led to rumours of suicide when her sudden death was announced on 8 December 1971. She had died of intercranial haemorrhage and a fractured skull in Charing Cross Hospital, London, after falling from a window of her London flat. Her blood-alcohol level was .28. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death."

There was one, who was named Charles ( I don"t recall his last name) he appered on Broadway as ( the star of the Australian production) in Man of La Mancha in its waning days.… at one time Robert Merrill did the role of Don Quixote, at any rate he recorded the theme-song ( Impossible dream) I hasten to add that Man of La Mancha is not an opera but a musical drama, as most of it takes place in a prison, it can"t really be called a musical comedy. The Charles Bloke ( it was a very simple name like Bates or Yates, anglo-sounding surname- was billed as part of the International Festval of Don Quixotes- an interesting tag line. Merrill was an opera singer, it is a logical guess the Charlie guy was too! I wish I had more information.

No person wants to admit to being second best, least of all at the Australian opera level by a female. = The two most famous female opera singers born in Australia were N…ellie Melba and Joan Sutherland. Which one was "best" or "second best," would be a matter of taste. Today, neither is alive.
She was havin' sex when her heart stood still.. She's in a coma.

Dame Nellie Melba, who died in l93l.
I accompanied him in a recital at Seattle. He was very easy to work with. This was in 1978. Last I heard, he was teaching at Indiana University, among other things.
