How did Sesame Street get its name?
After a long search for a catchy name, one of the show's writers suggested Sesame Street. The name "Sesame" was meant to conjure up a sense of excitement and adventure, as in the Arabian Nights command, "Open Sesame!" Because the show was set in an urban street scene, Sesame Street seemed an ideal combination.

Sesame Street Sesame Street is a children's television show. Some of the characters are: Elmo Monster Telly Monster Zoe Monster Oscar The Grouch Slimey Worm Glo Worm --------------------------------------------------------------- Answer2 Sesame Street who got its start on Novembe…r 10th 1969 and it was a program created to give kids of way of learning their ABCs and 123s with a bit of an Urban flair and also address cultural issues and differences. If you go back and see the old Sesame Street its almost representative of the cultural revolution that now is so common today. The show was filmed primarily in Manhattan and parts of Queens and derived the name "Sesame Street." Though many people recognize Jim Henson as a household name still many do not know that Jim Henson was the backbone of Sesame Street because he created alot of the puppets in the show. One creation of his commonly known is Kermit the Frog who played the Weatherman many times getting blown away by a strong storm wind. The other muppets made appearances quite regularly but Jim Henson created the Muppet Show, another hit, not long after. My favorite character being GROVER who plays the waiter that is totally oblivious to the needs of his customers and is always making mistakes. He also plays Super Grover who likes making crash landings. Sesame Street still comes on TV but it is a mix of clips from the much older shows and the newer ones, new characters being "Gabby" "Panwapa" "Zoey" The oldest shows are on DVD called "Old School Sesame Street" for about $24 dollars. --------------------------------------------------------------- Answer3 Elmo is the star(pritty much) Oscar The Grouch lives in a trash can i was glo worm for Halloween Big Bird is awesome snuffalufigus (snuff-a-luf-a-gus) is Big Birds bestest friend ever =) (MORE)

Most importantly, it needs to be a sunny day. You should sweep any clouds away, and then be on your way to where the air is sweet. It's where all the friendly neighbors meet. You will need to take a magic carpet ride, but all the doors will open wide. Tune in to your PBS station in the United Sta…tes, ABC1 in Australia, and Treehouse TV in Canada. Within the fictional New York of the show, you can get to the street via subway on the A train, B train, 1 train, or 2 train. There's no clear suggestion of where in the city the street is. (MORE)

I don't think they show it anymore. That is a shame. I never saw it or anything but from books that I read that have little snippits of information it sounds fun yet educational. I do have a t-shirt with a picture of Elmo on though! So I'm REALLY sorry I can't help you! Answer: Sesame Street is ali…ve and well and just celebrated its 40th anniversary with an appearance by Michelle Obama. It's on public broadcast stations- not cable, not ABC/NBS/CBS. The very first episode of Sesame Street was aired on November 10th, 1969 . In the first episode of Sesame Street, Gordon takes a girl named Sally on a tour of Sesame Street, introducing her (and the viewers) to the various characters on the show. On the street, Sally meets the human cast -- Gordon…, Susan, Bob and Mr. Hooper -- as well as two Muppet characters, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. Ernie and Bert appear for the first time, and Kermit the Frog gives a lecture on the letter W, interrupted by an early version of Cookie Monster. Also featured in this episode are the first installments of the "Number Song Series" and "Jazz" cartoons, the first appearance of a group of Anything Muppets, and the first performance of "One of These Things". Carol Burnett is the first celebrity guest to appear on the show. In this episode, many sketches are introduced by the characters, even within the inserts. This reflects the fact that the show was initially conceived as a children's version of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. For example, Gordon asks Kermit to give his W lecture, and when the sketch begins, Kermit says that Gordon asked him to talk about the letter W. (MORE)

Sesame Street is still going strong. In fact, this year (2009) is the 30th anniversary of the show. Sesame Street is an American educational children's television series and a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard, combining both education and entertainment. Sesame Stree…t is well known for its Muppet characters created by Jim Henson. It premiered on November 10, 1969, and is the longest running children's program on American television. The show is produced in the United States by the non-profit organization Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children's Television Workshop (CTW), founded by Joan Ganz Cooney and Ralph Rogers. The Children's Television Workshop, which owns and produces Sesame Street, is no more, however; it changed its name to the Sesame Workshop. The series is filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, New York, New York Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sesame_Street (MORE)

While there are many streets all over the United States and elsewhere with the name Sesame Street, no Sesame Street is filmed on a soundstage in a television studio.
Well, I just saw It's a Wonderful Life last night, and I observed for the first time that the policeman and taxi driver's names are Bert and Ernie! And since this movie came out first, maybe the makers of Sesame Street thought the 2 guys were great together and loved their names! Just a thought...

Both Sesame Street and Sesame Beginnings are by Sesame Workshop, a non-profit television production company. Beginnings was an attempt at a line of DVDs for babies and their parents, similar to Baby Einstein . The attempt drew flack from the media and advocacy groups, who argued kids shouldn…'t be watching TV until at least age 2, and no more direct-to-DVD products were made. That said, the picture book line continued production. (MORE)
In 1966, The Carnegie Institute hired Joan Ganz Cooney to study how the media could be used to help young children, especially those from low-income families, learn and prepare for school. Cooney proposed using television's "most engaging traits", including high production values, sophisticated writ…ing, and quality film and animation, to reach the largest audience possible. Cooney suggested creating a program that would spread prolearning values to both viewers and nonviewers (including their parents) that would affect them for many years after they stopped watching it. It isn't. Sesame Park was the Canadian spin-off of Sesame Street, which ran on the CBC. You may also be thinking of Sesame Place, a theme park in Pennsylvania.
My guess is Kermit the Frog, who is the longest-lasting of the Muppets. The Muppets were not originally custom-made for Sesame Street , they were a transplanted act that made the rounds of various shows such as Jimmy Dean (more or less C&W) and possibly Sullivan (Ed). originally he was not actually …a frog but a (Frog-like creature) as his creator would intone. There has been more than one gymnast to appear on Sesame Street. One gymnast appeared in a series of 6 insert segments in the 70's, demonstrating such concepts as "between, "around," and "close to/away from." The other gymnast, whom I assume most people are thinking of, was Dominique Dawes, who c…ompeted in the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympics. Dominique's appearances on the Street include demonstrating fast and slow for Telly, and showing Rosita how to do froggy jumps. (MORE)
In a Cookie Monster sketch , a Large Lavender Live Hand Anything Muppet librarian (performed by Richard Hunt) became extremely frustrated due to Cookie's inability to comprehend that the library doesn't have cookies. A different librarian character was featured in a spot with David singing "The Pe…ople in Your Neighborhood" . This librarian was an Orange Gold Anything Muppet performed by Jim Henson . Yet another librarian appeared in a sketch with Grover . This Green Anything Muppet Librarian (performed Jerry Nelson) kept telling Grover , who was trying to explain what goes on in a library , to talk more and more quietly until he could not be heard at all . Other librarians in the Sesame Street universe include Linda , Lisa , Mrs. Turow and Dalia . While not officially librarians , Maria worked as a part-time assistant at the Sesame Street Library when she was still in school and Grover would often assist her at the library . (MORE)
Barkly. But don't forget about Rolf, of the muppet show - also an awesome muppet dog.
You didn't hear. It was claimed that he had an affair with a 16 year old boy and there was a big controversy within that.
Grover is the blue monster that is usually wearing a cape! I hope this helps, :)
Well ...not exactly. Jim Henson had been doing puppetry for some time before SesameStreet started; he had had a short sketch comedy show with puppets("Sam and Friends") on TV, and had done a number of commercials forWilkins Coffee with a puppet (named "Wilkins") that somewhatresembled Kermit the Fr…og without the "collar"/neck frill. He hadsettled on the name "muppets" for his style of puppets and createda company named "Muppets Inc." by 1958, over 10 years before SesameStreet premiered. Wilkins (along with his co-star "Wontkins") andRowlf the Dog, who appeared on the Jimmy Dean Show, were the mostfamous Muppets from this era. In the 1960s, he met some of the founders of Sesame Street anddecided to form a partnership with Children's Television Workshop;the basic agreement was that Henson would perform on the show at nofee, but would retain the rights to the Muppets used on the show, and CTW and Henson would split any revenue generated by them. So, the Muppets existed before Sesame Street, but once SesameStreet premiered, for years the most well-known Muppets were thosethat appeared on Sesame Street. Most of the Sesame Street Muppetswere created specifically for the show (Rowlf did appear on onesegment, and "Wilkins" became "Kermit the Frog", with changes tomake him more frog-like). In the 1970s Henson did some sketches for Saturday Night Livefeaturing completely different (and frankly very weird) characters, and then started The Muppet Show with MOSTLY new characters. (MORE)
